NDA 2023: The window to edit NDA 2 application form 2023 closed on June 13. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) had activated the link to edit the application form on June 7. Candidates could apply for NDA 2 2023 exam till June 6. The application form was released on May 17, 2023 to fill up a total of 395 vacancies. The window to modify the OTR profile was June 13, 2023. There was no facility to withdraw NDA 2 application form. Women candidates could also apply for Indian Naval Academy (10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme). The application fee could be paid offline till June 5, 2023.

NDA 2 2023 exam will be conducted on September 3. The written exam of NDA comprises General Ability Test (GAT) and Mathmatics. The written exam of NDA carries 900 marks. Candidates qualifying the written exam are called for SSB interview. The SSB interview carries 900 marks. The SSB interview comprises Stage 1 and 2. Stage 1 of the SSB Interview comprises Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception and Description Test (PP&DT). Stage 2 comprises Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests, and the Conference. This stage carries 900 marks.

UPSC conducts National Defence Academy & Naval Academy examination to select eligible candidates who have passed Class 12 for admission to the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy courses. The selection process comprises the written exam and SSB interview. NDA 2023

Every year, NDA exam is conducted in two phases. NDA 2023 exam dates have been announced by UPSC. NDA 1 2023 exam was conducted for admission to the courses commencing in January 2024. NDA 2 2023 exam will be conducted for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA for the 152nd Course and for the 114th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) commencing from  July 2, 2024.

NDA Exam Dates 2024

UPSC has announced NDA 1 & 2 exam dates 2024. According to UPSC Calendar 2024, NDA 1 2024 exam will be conducted on April 21, 2024. The notification for the exam will be released on December 20, 2023. The last date of application is January 9, 2024. NDA 2 notification 2024 will be released on May 15, 2024. The last date to apply for the NDA 2024 exam is June 4, 2024. The exam will be conducted on September 1, 2024.

NDA & NA (I) 2023

NDA 1 2023 notification was released on December 21, 2022. The online applications were accepted till January 12, 2023. The notification was released for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA for the 148th Course and the 110th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) commencing from January 2024. 

NDA & NA 2 2023

NDA 2 2023 has been released on May 17, 2023. The online applications were accepted till June 6, 2023. The notification was released for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA and Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) commencing from July 2024.

What is NDA & NA 1 and 2 Exam?

National Defence Academy or NDA exam is conducted twice a year by Union Public Service Commission for admission to Army, Navy and Air Force wings of NDA and Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). It is the most sought-after defence entrance exams in the country where both male and female candidates can apply.

The exam is conducted in two stages: written exam and SSB Interview. In 2020, a total of 5.3 lakh candidates had applied for the exam, out of which 2.4 lakh candidates appeared for the exam. UPSC prepares a list of candidates who obtain minimum qualifying marks in the written exam. Such candidates are called for SSB Interview for Intelligence and Personality Test.

What is the difference between UPSC NDA 1 and NDA 2?

There is no difference between UPSC NDA 1 and 2 exams. NDA 1 exam is conducted for admission to the January batchWhereas, NDA 2 exam is conducted for admission to July batch.

Eligibility criteria for NDA

Nationality: A candidate must either be:

  1. a citizen of India, or

  2. a subject of Bhutan, or

  3. a subject of Nepal, or

  4. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

  5. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of  Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Age Limits 

  • Candidates born not earlier than 02nd January 1999 and not later than 1st January 2002 are eligible.

Marital Status

  1. Only unmarried male candidates are eligible to apply.

  2. Candidates must undertake not to marry until they complete their full training

  3. A candidate who marries after the date of his application though successful at this or any subsequent Examination will not be selected for training.

  4. A candidate who marries during training shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all expenditure incurred on him by the Government.

Educational Qualifications

  1. Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for this examination.

  2. Candidates appearing in the 11th class exam are not eligible for this examination.

  3. Those candidates who have yet to qualify in the 12th class or equivalent examination and are allowed to appear in the UPSC Examination should note that this is only a special concession given to them.

  4. Those candidates who have failed INSB/PABT earlier are not eligible for Air Force.

For Army Wing of National Defence Academy

  • 12th Class passes of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy.

  • 12th Class passes of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

Physical Standards

  1. Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (II), 2016 as per guidelines are given in Appendix-IV. (I.e. some Qualified Candidates Are Rejected Subsequently On Medical Grounds. Candidates Are Therefore Advised In Their Own Interest To Get Themselves Medically Examined Before Submitting Their Applications To Avoid Disappointment At The Final Stage. Candidates are also advised to rectify minor defects/ailments to speed up finalisation of a medical examination conducted at the Military  Hospital after being recommended at the SSB)

  2. A candidate who has resigned or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any of the training academies of Armed Forces is not eligible to apply.

Visual standards

  1. The distance vision (corrected) should be 6/6 in better eye and 6/9 in the worse eye. Myopia should not be more than 2.5 D and hypermetropia not more than 3.5 D including Astigmatism. Internal examination of the eye will be done using the ophthalmoscope to rule out any disease of the eye.

  2. A candidate must have good binocular vision. The colour vision standard will be (CP-III)  for Army. A candidate should be able to recognise red and green colours. Candidates will be required to give certificates that neither he nor any member of his family has suffered from congenital night blindness.

  3. Candidates who have undergone or have the evidence of having undergone Radial Keratotomy, to improve the visual acuity will be permanently rejected for all the Services. Candidates who have undergone Laser Surgery for correction of the refractive error are also not acceptable to defence services.

  1. Uncorrected without glass 6/6,  6/9

  2. Corrected with glass 6/6,  6/6

  3. Limits of Myopia –0.75

  4. Limits of Hypermetropia +1.5

  5. Binocular Vision III

  6. Limits of colour perception I

The exam pattern details are given here:

  • Type of Question: There will be objective type questions asked in the examination.

  • Exam Mode: The exam will be conducted through pen and paper-based mode.

  • Exam Duration: Two and half hour duration will be given for Code 1 and Code 2.

  • Section: The exam will consist of two sections like Mathematics and General Ability Test.

  • Language: The question paper will be asked in bilingual, i.e. English & Hindi only.

NDA Syllabus

  • Before preparing for the examination, candidates should gather all the details regarding officially prescribed syllabus.

  • The syllabus has been divided into two sections, i.e. Mathematics & General Ability Test.

  • The mathematics section will contain topics like Trigonometry, Differential Calculus, Algebra, Integral Calculus & Differential equations, Statistics, Probability, Vector Algebra, etc.

  • The general ability section is divided into two parts, i.e. English and General Knowledge.
