The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA)

National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is conducted by Council of Architecture (COA) since 2006. It measures the aptitude of the applicant for specific field of study, i.e. Architecture. The test makes an assessment of drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at 10+2 level and critical thinking ability that have been acquired by the candidate over the past few years and are related to the specific field of study. The examination is conducted in two sessions.

How to fill the NATA 2023 application form? 

Candidates can follow the below steps to fill NATA 2023 application form:

Step 1: Register for NATA 2023 

To begin with, candidates need to click on the NATA 2023 - Registration tab given on the right of the official website. After this candidate will have to first create login id and password. To be able to do the same, they will have to fill a form which requires the following details about the candidate:

  • Name 
  • Gender
  • Date of birth 
  • Mobile number 
  • Email id 
  • Unique password 
  • Security question

Once the above details and filled and submitted, candidates will receive an email on their registered ID containing the application number and password. This has to be preserved for future logins on the website.   

Step 2: Login and fill NATA 2023 application form 

To fill NATA 2023 application form, candidates will have to first login on the official website of NATA using the registered credentials. Once successfully logged in, candidates can begin filling the application form for NATA 2023. 

Step 3: Upload scanned copies of required documents  

After successfully submitting the duly filled NATA application form, candidates will be asked to upload the scanned copies of the following documents: 

  • Candidate's recent passport size photograph 
  • Candidate's signature

Step 4: Pay the application fee for NATA 2023

After completing the application submission process, candidates will have to make the payment of the prescribed NATA application fee. The application fee can be paid using Netbanking / Credit Cards / ICICI Isure Bank Challan.

CoA will also provide candidates with the opportunity to make corrections in NATA application form if in case they have made any mistakes while filling the online form. Follow the below steps to avail the application correction facility: 

  • Visit the official website of NATA 2023
  • Login using application number and password 
  • Click on "Application Correction"
  • Correct the errors/ incomplete information and submit 

How to download NATA 2023 admit card? 

Take a look at the below steps to download NATA admit card 2023 from the official website: 

  • Visit the official website of NATA
  • Click on the NATA 2023 registration link given at the bottom of the homepage 
  • Navigate to the NATA 2023 admit card link 
  • On clicking, you will be redirected to the login window 
  • Enter your application number and password to log in
  • NATA 2023 admit card will be displayed on the screen 
  • Download and take a print out of the same to be produced at the NATA exam centres

Eligibility Criteria for Candidates

  1. The candidates who have passed 10+2 level examination with at least 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (PCM) and also at least 50% marks in aggregate of the 10+2 level examination or passed 10+3 Diploma Examination with Mathematics as compulsory subject with at least 50% marks in aggregate, shall be eligible to appear for NATA-2021.
  2. The candidates appearing for 10+2 examination with PCM or 10+3 Diploma with Mathematics in the current year may also provisionally appear for NATA-2021, subject to fulfilling the above criteria.
  3. The candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC-NCL category or PwD (Persons with disability) shall be provided a relaxation of 5% marks in total aggregate in 10+2 level/10+3 Diploma as well as PCM.

QUALIFYING IN NATA-2022 DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A RIGHT/ GUARANTEE IN FAVOUR OF THE CANDIDATE FOR HIS/HER ADMISSION TO ANY ARCHITECTURE COURSE UNLESS HE/SHE HAS FULFILLED ALL THE PRESCRIBED REQUIREMENTS AS SPECIFIED BY RESPECTIVE COMPETENT AUTHORITIES.

DRAWING TEST: Understanding of scale and proportion of objects, geometric composition, shape, building forms and elements, aesthetics, colour texture, harmony and contrast. Conceptualization and Visualization through structuring objects in memory. Drawing of patterns - both geometrical and abstract. Form transformations in 2D and 3D like union, subtraction, rotation, surfaces and volumes. Generating plan, elevation and 3D views of objects. Creating 2D and 3D compositions using given shape and forms. Perspective drawing, Sketching of urban scape and landscape, Common day-to-day life objects like furniture, equipment etc., from memory.

PHYSICS : Electrostatics- Electric charges and Fields; Electrostatic Potential and Clearance Current Electricity; Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism; Moving Charges and magnetism; Magnetism and Matter Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating currents- Electromagnetic Induction; Alternating Current Optics- Ray optics and optical instruments, Wave Optics Dual nature of radiation and Matter Atoms and Nuclei- Atoms, Nuclei Electronic devices- Semiconductor Electronics, Materials, Devices and Simple circuits

CHEMISTRY: Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry; Structure of Atom; Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties Chemical Bonding and Molecular; States of Matter: Gases and Liquids Chemical Thermodynamics; Equilibrium; Redox Reactions; Hydrogen; s- Block Elements p -Block Elements Organic Chemistry: Some basic Principles and Techniques; Hydrocarbons; Environmental Chemistry

MATHEMATICS

Algebra: Definitions of A. P. and G.P.; General term; Summation of first n-terms of series ∑n, ∑n²,∑n3 ; Arithmetic/Geometric series, A.M., G.M. and their relation; Infinite G.P. series and its sum.

Logarithms: Definition; General properties; Change of base.

Matrices: Concepts of m x n (m ≤ 3, n ≤ 3) real matrices, operations of addition, scalar multiplication and multiplication of matrices. Transpose of a matrix. Determinant of a square matrix. Properties of determinants (statement only). Minor, cofactor and adjoint of a matrix. Non-singular matrix. Inverse of a matrix. Finding area of a triangle. Solutions of system of linear equations. (Not more than 3 variables).

Trigonometry: Trigonometric functions, addition and subtraction formulae, formulae involving multiple and submultiple angles, general solution of trigonometric equations. Properties of triangles, inverse trigonometric functions and their properties.

Coordinate geometry: Distance formula, section formula, area of a triangle, condition of collinearity of three points in a plane. Polar coordinates, transformation from Cartesian to polar coordinates and vice versa. Parallel transformation of axes, concept of locus, elementary locus problems. Slope of a line. Equation of lines in different forms, angle between two lines. Condition of perpendicularity and parallelism of two lines. Distance of a point from a line. Distance between two parallel lines. Lines through the point of intersection of two lines. Equation of a circle with a given center and radius. Condition that a general equation of second degree in x, y may represent a circle. Equation of a circle in terms of endpoints of a diameter. Equation of tangent, normal and chord. Parametric equation of a circle. Intersection of a line with a circle. Equation of common chord of two intersecting circles.

3-Dimensional Co-ordinate geometry: Direction cosines and direction ratios, distance between two points and section formula, equation of a straight line, equation of a plane, distance of a point from a plane.

Theory of Calculus: Functions, composition of two functions and inverse of a function, limit, continuity, derivative, chain rule, derivative of implicit functions and functions defined parametrically. Integration as a reverse process of differentiation, indefinite integral of standard functions. Integration by parts. Integration by substitution and partial fraction. Definite integral as a limit of a sum with equal subdivisions. Fundamental theorem of integral calculus and its applications. Properties of definite integrals. Formation of ordinary differential equations, solution of homogeneous differential equations, separation of variables method, linear first order differential equations.

Application of Calculus: Tangents and normals, conditions of tangency. Determination of monotonicity, maxima and minima. Differential coefficient as a measure of rate. Motion in a straight line with constant acceleration. Geometric interpretation of definite integral as area, calculation of area bounded by elementary curves and Straight lines. Area of the region included between two elementary curves.

Permutation and combination: Permutation of n different things taken r at a time (r ≤ n). Permutation of n things not all different. Permutation with repetitions (circular permutation excluded). Combinations of n different things taken r at a time (r ≤ n). Combination of n things not all different. Basic properties. Problems involving both permutations and combinations.

Statistics and Probability: Measure of dispersion, mean, variance and standard deviation, frequency distribution. Addition and multiplication rules of probability, conditional probability and Bayes’ Theorem, independence of events, repeated independent trails and Binomial distribution.

GENERAL APTITUDE Objects, texture related to architecture and built environment. Interpretation of pictorial compositions, Visualizing three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawing. Visualizing different sides of 3D objects. Analytical reasoning, mental ability (visual, numerical and verbal), General awareness of national/ international architects and famous architectural creations.

Mathematical reasoning: Statements, logical operations like and, or, if and only if, implies, implied by. Understanding of tautology, converse, contradiction and contrapositive.

Sets and Relations: Idea of sets, subsets, power set, complement, union, intersection and difference of sets, Venn diagram, De Morgan's Laws, Relation and its properties. Equivalence relation — definition and elementary examples.
