Maharashtra Judiciary Eligibility Criteria 2021

For Lawyers, Attorneys, & Advocates

The minimum age limit for these positions is 29 years and the maximum age is 35 years. The candidate should hold a degree in Law from on or before the date mentioned in the Maharashtra Judiciary Exam notification. The candidate should also have 3 years of legal practice as a lawyer, Attorney, or Advocate in the Mumbai High Court or in a subordinate court.

The candidate applying for the post of Public Prosecutor in Maharashtra should be a judicial professional to qualify for this exam. Candidates should be able to speak, read, and write the Marathi language thoroughly. The candidate should hold a certificate of adequate knowledge of the Marathi language. The candidate should also be able to translate from Marathi to English and from English to Marathi.

For new Law Graduates

The minimum age limit for these candidates is 25 years and the maximum age limit is 29 years. The candidate should have obtained a degree in law by passing each year in the first attempt. Also, in the final year of the degree, the candidate should have secured 55% marks in the first attempt and should have passed the PG degree in law with at least 55% marks.

The candidate should be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the Marathi language. The candidate should also hold a certificate of adequate knowledge of the Marathi language. Also, the candidate should be able to translate from Marathi to English and from English to Marathi.

For Members of the Service Staff of the High Court, courts subordinate to the High Court, the Ministry of Laws and Department of Justice, and other posts

The lower age limit for this post is 21 years and the upper age limit is 45 years. The candidate should be at least three in service after graduation as per the date mentioned in the notification. The candidate should be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the Marathi language. The candidate should also hold a certificate of adequate knowledge of the Marathi language. Also, the candidate should be able to translate from Marathi to English and from English to Marathi.

Educational Qualification

The candidate should have acquired academic qualifications from a competent university on the day of the result announcement of the relevant exam.

Nationality

No candidate shall be eligible for the appointment:

• If he/she is not a citizen of India.
• If he/she is compulsorily retired, removed or dismissed from judicial service or from service in Government or Statutory or Local Authority or failed to complete probation period in judicial service on any post, or in Government or Statutory or Local Authority.
• If he/she has been convicted for an offense involving moral turpitude or he/she is or has been permanently debarred or disqualified by the High Court or the Union Public Service Commission or any State Public Service Commission from appearing for examinations or any selections conducted by it.
• If he/she directly or indirectly influences the Recruiting Authority by any means for his/her candidature.

Maharashtra Judiciary Exam Selection Process 2021

Maharashtra Judiciary Exam selection process consists of three stages: prelims, mains, and interview process. The syllabus and exam pattern of all three stages is as follows:

Prelims Exam Pattern

The prelims exam will have a single question paper of 100 marks. The duration of this exam is for 2 hours. The paper will have 100 MCQs. The questions will be in the English language. There is a section called legislative law in the question paper. In case of any wrong answers, 1/4th of the marks will be deducted.

Mains Exam Pattern

The mains exam is of descriptive type and has two papers of 100 marks each. The duration of the exam will be of 3 hours for each paper. The mains exam will be conducted in Marathi and the English language.
