M.A. Mathematics or Master of Arts in Mathematics is a postgraduate Mathematics course. It includes a comprehensive and thorough study of mathematics as a discipline at an advanced level. The syllabus is divided into four semesters of six months each. During the course, many aspects are to be taken such as art of proving theorems, from both the philosophical and aesthetic points of view, using examples such as non-Euclidean geometries, prime numbers, abstract groups, and uncountable sets. Emphasis will be placed on appreciating the beauty and variety of mathematical ideas. The course will include a survey of important results and unsolved problems that motivate mathematical research. The Masters’ degree course is very valuable and important one due to its job orienting nature and it is two years duration. Almost every college and university is offering this course mainly on regular basis and may be on correspondence basis.

The basic eligibility criterion for pursuing M.A. (Mathematics) degree is having graduation degree with Honours in Mathematics or Mathematics as one of the subjects studied in graduation from any of the recognised university/college of the country.
Some of the very reputed universities and institutes demand a minimum of 50% marks in graduation as qualifying criteria to secure admission in this course and conduct entrance examination to get admission to their M.A. (Mathematics) degree course. Selection to the degree course in these colleges is based on marks secured in the final merit i.e. total marks aggregated in the final exams of graduation and the entrance exam.
