M.Sc. in Agribusiness Economics

The M.Sc. in Agribusiness Economics program equips the students for careers in the agribusiness sector as managers inagro-based Industries, agricultural economists in Research Institutes and consultant inBanking and Financial sectors. The academic content of the program has 3 major modules:an economics module, a management module and an agribusiness module.

The economics module equips students with core economic principles such as consumerbehavior and policy making as well as the advanced quantitative techniques that are the basictools used to analyze questions of both business and policy.

The agribusiness module in particular focuses on subjects like Supply Chain Management,Cooperatives, Commodity Derivative, Agricultural Risk Management and Insurance thatenables the students to deal with the current theory, data and issues surrounding theagribusiness sector in India. The management module provides students with overview ofessential managerial skills such as accounting, finance, strategic marketing and organizationalstructures in agricultural products.

The course also allows students to have hands on experience on statistical computational toolslike SPSS. The 3 modules together provide students with the necessary theoretical knowledgeto embark on successful careers. In addition to numerous field trips during the program,students hone their practical skills in a 2-month internship with the leading sector organizationsat the end of the first year of the program thereby fitting to contribute meaningfully from day 1on the job.

Agriculture is the primary sector in India with almost 65% of the population engaged in it. With the commercialization of horticulture and agriculture, there are now vast amount of opportunities and paid jobs in both government and private institutions.

Potential employers are hotels, resorts, and in health farms in order to decorate their settings. Students can also work as distributors, supervisors, researchers, and engineers, or start their own business.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Students desiring admission to the course, need to fulfil the following criterias:

  • The student must have completed graduation in the discipline of Agriculture from a recognized university.
  • The student must have secured a minimum of of 60% (50% for SC/ST candidates) at the levels of 10+2 and graduation.
