M.Phil. or Master of Philosophy is a Postgraduate Academic Research Degree Course. It studies about the nature of man and ideas in context to a certain field of study. Philosophy is a comprehensive system of ideas about human nature and the nature of the reality we live in. The duration of Master of Philosophy degree is 1-2 years involving a number of semesters. The Course is of 2 years duration if pursued Part-Time, like in Bharathidasan University. A pre-doctoral programme - Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) is taken after completion of the Master's Degree. This can either be completely research based or can include course work as well. Masters Degree in Philosophy is offered by various Indian Universities in a wide variety of subjects ranging from English, Mathematics, and Physics to Management. Masters Degree Programs in Philosophy can also be pursued through distance learning programs which one can pursue at one's own flexibility. After completing Master of Philosophy through distance learning, one can continue further research through other doctoral programs. The M.Phil programme in Education (Interdisciplinary) orients students towards interdisciplinary approach in education and trains them in both qualitative and empirical quantitative research, including statistical analysis, research methods in education and social sciences, in relation to the socio-economic, cultural, political and psychological perspectives of the research theme selected. This M.PHIL programme is affiliated to the University of Pune.
This is a full-time programme. The lectures, discussion and seminars are held in the first semester and during the second semester, seminars and discussion are conducted related to the dissertation. Students are required to write terms papers and give seminars during the programme and they are evaluation based on credits.
The M.Phil. programme is crucial for prospective researchers at the pre-doctoral level.The programme is designed to build the research capacity of scholars from varied backgrounds and provide a strong orientation in different areas of education.
M.Phil. programme will include two courses—Core course and Area of Specialization. In addition, all the students will be required to undertake a Dissertation. The course will also include advanced seminar in which student will present a paper on any educational theme in research colloquium and clear a viva voce examinati on.
Eligibility and Admission:
(i) 50% marks at Master's Degree in relevant subject for open category.
(ii) 45% marks at Master's Degree in relevant subject for reserved category(only for ST / SC).
