IGBG Learning Society every year organizes the Geo Genius examination aka Geo Genius Geography Olympiad with an aim to cultivate academic excellence in the field of Geography and a competitive spirit amongst the students. The exam also aims to promote geographical knowledge amongst the youngsters and also to make them understand the current Environmental challenges faced by the society.

Syllabus of examination:

For sub-junior category:

The candidates need to study Indian Geography whilst considering following topics:

  • Political Geography; states and capitals
  • Physical Geography; major mountain and rivers
  • Cultural Geography; languages festivals, landmarks and dances

For Junior category:

The candidates appearing under this category have to study geography from the following point of view:

  • General Physical geography- earth, land forms, etc.
  • Indian Geography-
  • Political
  • Historical
  • Physical
  • Cultural
  • Economic
  • Asian Geography-
    • Political- capitals of important countries
    • Physical- major rivers and mountains
    • Cultural-people
    • Languages- holidays, festivals, dance and sports
  • Current events

Senior category:

The candidates under this category has to study following sub-topics of geography:

  • Indian Geography
  • Political
  • Historical
  • Physical
  • Cultural
  • Economic
  • World’s geography
    • Political- capitals of important countries
    • Physical- major rivers and mountains
    • Cultural-people
    • Languages- holidays, festivals, dance and sports
  • Current events

Levels of examination:

Level I: School level

The schools conduct these examinations and qualifying students are selected for further levels based on the cut-off.

Level II: National level

This is the final level and the national finalist is selected from out of this level.

Incentives:

The candidates qualifying the school level are awarded with gold, silver and bronze medal depending along with certificates and a certificate of participation for the participating students. The student who qualify this exam as a national finalist is awarded with trophy and certificate. And also, the prizes like laptop, digital cameras and wrist watches are awarded to the first, second and third positioners.


 

Eligibility:

The students are divided in three categories for this exam:

  • Sub-Junior category: Students studying under II to IV grade are eligible under this category.
  • Junior category: Students studying under grade V to VII come under this category.
  • Senior category: Students studying under VII to X grade come under this category.

The medium for this examination is English.
