Admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is made on the basis of a Selection Test, designed and conducted by the CBSE. The test is called the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST). It is of non-verbal nature, class-neutral and designed so as to ensure that talented children from rural areas are able to compete without facing any disadvantage. Special care is taken to ensure that children from far flung areas get admission forms free of cost, without any difficulty. Sufficient publicity is done through Doordarshan, All India Radio, local newspapers, pamphlets, Vidyalaya websites and through visits of Principals and teachers of Navodaya Vidyalayas to the local schools of the district.

ADMISSION TO CLASS IX AGAINST VACANT SEATS In order to optimally utilize the infrastructure and other facilities available in these Vidyalayas, it has been decided by the Samiti to fill the vacant seats in Class IX through an All India level Admission Test.

Eligible candidates can apply online 

Online applications may be submitted from 15th October, 2018, free of cost. The candidate may refer to NVS Hqrs. Website www.navodaya.gov.in or website of JNVs. Last date to apply for Class-IX Lateral Entry test is 30th November 2018.

1. Date of Examination – Saturday 2nd February 2019  

2. Duration – 2 ½ hours (10:00 AM to 12:30 PM). However, in respect of candidates with special needs (Divyang), additional time of 30 minutes will be provided, subject to the production of certificates from the competent authority.

3 Centre for examination shall be the JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA of the district concerned/ any other center allotted by NVS.

4 Medium of Language for Examination will be English/Hindi.

5 Students have to answer in OMR sheet

About NVS

  • It is to inform that the Lateral Entry Test for admission of students to Class IX in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas will be held on Saturday 2nd February 2019  . The last date of submission of Application Form at JNV is 30th November 2018.
  • As per the provisions of the Scheme, one Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is to be set up in each district. At present, there are 595 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya spread over 34 States and UTs in India
  • In order to optimally utilize the infrastructure and facilities available in these Vidyalayas, it has been decided by the Samiti to fill the vacant seats in IX class through an All India level Selection Test. The District-wise vacant seats in the Vidyalayas are separately notified in local newspapers.

Objectives of the Scheme

  • To provide good quality modern education including a strong component of culture, inculcation of values, awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education to the talented children from rural areas without regard to their family’s socio-economic condition
  • To ensure that students attain a reasonable level of competency in three languages as envisaged in Three Language Formula
  • To serve in each district as focal point for improvement of quality of school education in general through sharing of experiences and facilities

Distribution of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas

  • At present, there are 626 functional Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas spread over 28 States and 07 UTs

Admission to Class IX against Vacant Seats

  • In order to optimally utilize the infrastructure and facilities available in these Vidyalayas, it has been decided by the Samiti to fill the vacant seats in Class IX through an All India level Admission Test.

Selection Process

  • Selection in the selection test will not vest any right upon candidate to secure admission into JNV till the candidate produces all the relevant certificates such as birth certificate, pass certificate of VIII class with mark sheets, SC/ST certificate, if any, as prescribed by NVS for the admission
  • Details of the marks obtained in the test will not be communicated and there is no provision for re-checking/re-totaling.
  • Candidates will be considered for the admission only into that Vidyalaya for which he/she has appeared for Selection Test.

Reservation

  • The existing vacant seats in the SC/ST category as notified are reserved for the SC/ST students
  • For vacancy position, website of NVS(HQ) may be referred.

Application

  • Online applications may be submitted through www.navodaya.gov.in  from 01st March 2018. Last date to apply for Class-IX Lateral Entry test is 30th November 2018.

  • Application Form duly completed in all respect must reach “the Office of the Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya” of the concerned district on or before the 30th November 2018.
  • Duly filled in application forms must be sent through registered post A/D. If the candidate prefers to submit Application Form in person, he/she is advised to get the acknowledgement from the office of the Principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.
  • Applications may be submitted by accessing NVS website www.navodaya.gov.in

Eligibility Conditions for Class VI

For All Candidates

  1.   Only candidates from the district where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya has been opened are eligible to apply for admission. However, in the district where the JNV is opened and is bifurcated at a later date, the old boundaries of the district are considered for the purpose of eligibility for admission in the JNVs. This applies to cases where new Vidyalaya has not yet been started in the newly bifurcated district .

  2.  Candidates appearing for the selection test must be studying in Class-V for the entire academic session in a Government/Government-Aided, other recognized school or ‘B’ Certificate Competency Course of National Institute of Open Schooling, in the same district where he/she seeks admission. 
    A school will be deemed to have been recognized if it is declared so by the Government or by any other agency authorized on behalf of the Government. Schools, where students have obtained ‘B’ certificate under National Institute of Open Schooling should have accreditation of NIOS. A candidate must successfully complete Class-V. Actual admission in Class-VI will be subject to these conditions.

  3.  A candidate seeking admission must be within the age group of 9 to 13 years. This is applicable to candidates of all categories, including those who belong to the Scheduled Castes(SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).

  4.   A candidate claiming admission from rural quota must have studied and passed Classes- III, IV and V from a Govt./Govt. Aided/ recognised school spending one full academic session each year in a school located in a rural area.

  5.   A candidate who has studied in a school located in an urban area even for a single day of a session in any of the Classes-III, IV or V, will be considered as an Urban area candidate. Urban areas are those, which are so notified in the 2001 Census or through a subsequent Government Notification. All other areas will be considered as rural.

  6.   A candidate who has not been promoted and admitted to Class-V before 30th September, is not eligible to apply.

  7.   No candidate is eligible to appear in the JNV Selection Test for a second time, under any circumstances.

Reservation for Rural, SC/ST, Girls & Disabled Children

  1.   At least 75% of the seats in a district will be filled by candidates selected from rural areas and remaining seats will be filled up from the urban areas of the district.

  2.  There is a provision for reservation of seats for SC and ST candidates in proportion to their population in the district but not less than the national average

  3.   1/3 of the seats are reserved for girl students.

  4.   There is a provision for reservation of 3% seats for disabled children (i.e. Orthopedically Handicapped, Hearing Impaired and Visually Handicapped).

In order to optimally utilise the infrastructure and staff facilities available in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, vacant seats in Class-IX are filled up through Lateral Entry Test. During the year 2016-17, Lateral Entry Test for Class-IX was conducted in 550 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.

 Eligibility Conditions For Class IX

To appear in the Selection Test, a candidate has to fulfill the following eligibility conditions :

  • Only those candidates who have studied in Class-VIII in one of the Govt./Govt. recognised schools of the district where the JNV is functioning can seek admission in Class-IX.

  • A candidate seeking admission must be between the age group 13-16 years on 1st May of the year of admission for which the Selection Test is conducted. This is applicable to all categories of candidates including those who belong to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

  • The medium of Language for the Examination is English/Hindi.

 

LATERAL ENTRY FOR CLASS-XI

 Issue of Notification for Admission in Class-XI

The vacant seats available in each JNV is notified every year in the local newspapers by the JNV concerned of that district. The admission in Class–XI is completed by 15th July every year.

 Eligibility for Admission in Class-XI

  •   Students seeking admission in Class–XI should be within the age limit of 14-18 years as on 1st July, of the year of admission.

  •  The candidate must have passed Class–X from a recognized school (affiliated to CBSE or any other State Education Board) of the district where the JNV is located during the academic session of the year of admission.

  •  The merit list will be prepared as per marks obtained by the applicant in the Class–X Board Exam and the admission will be given as per eligibility of candidate and the seats available in the JNV concerned.

  •  The candidates must have reasonable competency in English and Hindi.
