The last date for confirming admissions for students selected under the Right to Education Act's (RTE) 25% quota in entry-level primary classes in the state has been extended to May 15, said a notification from the directorate of primary education.
This is the second such extension given to students for admissions under RTE. Earlier, the last date for confirming admissions was announced as April 30, followed by May 8.
In Maharashtra, till Monday evening, nearly 50,000 students had confirmed their admissions in the first round.
Atotal of 8,823 schools are registered on the RTE portal in the state, with a combined intake capacity of 1,01,846 seats.
In Pune, of the 935 schoolsregistered with a combined intake capacity of 15,596 seats, as many as 8,359 admissions have been confirmed despite the portal getting 77,531 applications and 15,501 applications getting selected for the first round.
The first lottery for admissions was held on April 5, and the admission procedure began on April 13.
Sharad Gosavi, director of primary education, said the admission of students kept on the waiting list would be processed after May 15.
