The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) planning to introduce a pilot program for the National Credit Framework in classes 6, 9, and 11 starting from the Academic Year 2024-25. CBSE has invited its affiliated schools to participate in this initiative, news agency PTI reported on Wednesday citing officials.
The National Credit Framework (NCrF) was introduced by the government last year as part of the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020. Its objective is to streamline the integration of school, higher, and vocational education, allowing students to accrue credits from pre-primary education up to the PhD level. In response, CBSE has drafted guidelines for the implementation of the framework.
"The CBSE developed and circulated draft NCrF implementation guidelines, discussed them in multiple workshops, and received approval from the Union Ministry of Education. To further test, refine and assess their effectiveness in real-world contexts, a pilot implementation of these guidelines has been planned in schools affiliated to CBSE in classes 6, 9 and 11, with effect from session 2024-2025," the PTI quoted a letter sent to school principals by the CBSE.
"Principals of interested schools for this pilot programme are requested to share their contact details through the link (https://forms.gle/5AB2iuxa1k62r2E3A)," further added.
Academic, Extracurricular, and Vocational Credits: Avenues for Credit Accumulation
Students have the opportunity to earn credits through diverse avenues, including classroom instruction, laboratory work, projects, participation in sports and performing arts, engagement in NCC and social service activities, vocational education, and experiential learning. These avenues encompass relevant experiences and attained proficiency levels, among other pursuits.
"This would close the gap in achievement of learning outcomes by shifting the classroom education to competency and learning outcome-based education and learning. The assessment is thus mandatory for earning credits for all types of learning," the board said.
The board mentioned that the credits earned will be recorded in the student's Academic Bank of Credit (ABC), which will be linked to the student's APAAR ID and DigiLocker in the future.
