PUBLISH DATE 16th October 2020

  • What after NEET?

  • What is the next step after qualifying and clearing the NEET exam cut off?

  • Which are the forms I’m supposed to fill for admission after the result is declared?

  • What is the way to apply for counselling in another state?

These are some relevant questions in front of the candidates. Let us first understand some important aspects of NEET 2020.

The Courses Offered Through NEET

  • MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery)

  • BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery)

  • BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery)

  • BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)

  • BSMS (Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery)

  • BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery)

What students should do instantly after NEET 2020 result is declared?

  • Once the result are declared, you will come to your rank in the merit list. NEET result will have the details of the marks obtained by a candidate. NTA will make the merit list for 15% AIQ counselling. NTA will also share the details of the qualified aspirants from each state with the particular authorities for 85% state quota counselling.

The Counselling Process

  • NEET counselling process can be a bit puzzling for its candidates. Firstly we have to understand that is, the counselling is not conducted by NTA. The role of NTA is limited to conducting the examination and preparing the result of NEET 2020. Various authorities are placed for directing the admission process.

  • The main thing in this process is that NEET 2020 applicants should understand the division of seats for the counselling process. Mainly, there are three types of counselling, Central, State and AYUSH.

    1. Central or All India Quota (AIQ) Counselling:

  • All the Central and Deemed Universities like AIIMS, AMU and BHU are there in this counselling process. Besides these, 15% seats of all the government medical and dental colleges are also filled through the AIQ counselling. Candidates from all over the country can participate in this counselling process. AIQ counselling allows a candidate to take admission into a college located in any other state without presenting any Domicile or Residency Certificate.

  • The AIQ counselling is held by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). Candidates who qualify the exam can only participate in the AIQ counselling by MCC.

  • The exception to AIQ counselling is the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, admissions to the colleges in the state of Jammu and Kashmir will be through the state quota counselling only.

  1. State Quota Counselling:

State Quota Counselling is for the admission of the remaining 85% seats of Government Medical and Dental Colleges. All the seats of the Private Medical and Dental Colleges, situated in a specific state, are also under this counselling process. Though, the state quota seats are reserved for the aspirants domiciled in that specific state only. Aspirants from any other state will not be eligible to participate in this counselling process.

  1. AYUSH Counselling :

Counselling for the AYUSH courses is conducted by a separate body, called the AYUSH Admissions Central Counselling Committee that is AACCC. This committee will execute the admission process for all the Deemed AYUSH universities in India. Including these 15% seats of Government, Government-aided, Central, National and Private Colleges are also to be filled in this counselling.

What after NEET? For those who were unable to qualify

There are two options for such students who are unable to qualify for NEET. These aspirants can start preparing for the examination with a new strategy based on the experience that they have gained this year.

The second option is for students who do not want to devote another year in preparation of the examination, yet want to pursue a career in the field of medicine. Such candidates can take a look at the courses given below. These admit candidates on the basis of the marks obtained in Class 12.
