The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a warning to medical aspirants seeking admission to foreign universities. The commission advised students to refrain from enrolling in medical colleges abroad that do not adhere to NMC regulations, particularly regarding curriculum, duration, training, and internship requirements. Any deviations in these areas may result in disqualification for registration to practice medicine in India, with the responsibility falling solely on the candidate, as per the notification.
"lt has come to the notice of this Commission that in spite of Advisory and Alert issued by NMC, several Indian students are seeking admission to private medical colleges abroad which do not adhere to regulations laid by National Medical Commission and the institutes or universities abroad are following the curriculum, time frame and training imparted to the students are not in consonance with NMC regulations being followed in India. It has also come to the notice of this Commission that many students still taking admissions to such institutes/universities," reads the NMC notification.
In its official notification, the NMC referred to the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiates (FMGL) Regulations, 2021, which outlines the required conditions for duration of study, medium of instruction, syllabus, clinical training, and internship. These conditions are mandatory for obtaining a medical registration to practice allopathy in India.
The NMC urged all students aspiring to pursue a medical qualification from foreign institutions to ensure their chosen institution complies with the FMGL regulations, as failure to do so could disqualify them from practicing in India.
