The Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H) held its 13th convocation on Saturday, marking a significant milestone with 1,090 students receiving 1,103 degrees. This is the highest number of graduates in a year for IIT Hyderabad, and possibly for any second-generation IIT in India.
Achievements
• Graduates: 1,090 students were awarded degrees, including 414 BTech students, 17 BDes, 10 MA (Development Studies and Health, Gender & Society), 88 MSc, 34 MDes, 10 MDes by Practice, 320 MTech, 4 MTech (from BTech conversion), 8 MTech (Direct BTech to PhD), 1 MTech (PhD conversion), 9 Executive MTech, 53 Online MTech, 1 MS (by Coursework), 1 MS (by Research), and 132 PhD candidates.
• First-time Graduates: This includes the inaugural batch of graduates from the BTech in Biomedical Engineering, MTech in Transportation Engineering, Semiconductor Materials and Devices, and Heritage Science and Technology (online).
• Interdisciplinary Programs: Graduates from new interdisciplinary MTech programs in Integrated Circuits and Microsystems Packaging, Ophthalmic Engineering, and EV Technology (online), as well as a Master of Arts in Health, Gender, and Society.
• Special Gifts: Graduates received specially designed Pochampalli stoles as part of IIT Hyderabad’s tradition of connecting to the culture of Telangana.
Medal Awards
• Gold Medals:
• Mamidipaka Pragna: President of India Gold Medal for highest overall CGPA in BTech (Electrical Engineering).
• Tanmoy Dutta: Institute Gold Medal for highest overall CGPA in MSc/MA (Physics).
• Balaji G R: Institute Gold Medal for highest overall CGPA in MTech/MDes (Civil Engineering).
• Anirudh Srinivasan: Institute Gold Medal for Excellence in Academics and Co-Curricular Activities (Computer Science and Engineering).
• Silver Medals: A total of 38 silver medals were awarded to students for securing the highest CGPA in their respective departments (11 BTech, 1 BDes, 3 MSc, 20 MTech, 1 MA, and 2 MDes).
Notable Programs
• Dual Degrees: Four students were awarded BTech and MTech degrees under the Dual Degree conversion program.
• Direct BTech to PhD: Eight students received MTech and PhD degrees under the Direct BTech to PhD program.
• Dual Degree Conversion: One student was awarded MTech and PhD degrees under the Dual Degree conversion program.
This convocation highlights IIT Hyderabad’s growth and commitment to academic excellence, producing a diverse and skilled cohort of graduates ready to contribute to various fields.
