UGC NET Exam Analysis December 2019

PUBLISH DATE 5th December 2019

Many of the candidates who appeared for the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) have found the comprehension passages in the exam too lengthy consuming more time.

While they were unable to view the whole passage on the screen, they had to spend a considerable amount of time on scrolling the page vertically and horizontally, said the candidates. A total of 10.34 lakh candidates have registered for NET to appear in the computer-based test starting on December 2. Conducted across 81 subjects, the examinations are scheduled to be over by December 6.

Saying that there were too many comprehension passages this time, which took a lot of time, PhD student from K K Nagar, R Priyadarshini said that the whole passage could not be viewed fully in the screen.

Since most of the questions asked from the passage were tricky, we had to revisit the passage for verification by repeatedly scrolling the page vertically and horizontally, which was indeed annoying, she said.

Another aspirant, working as an assistant professor in a city college, said that the questions were too lengthy. Some of them were more than a paragraph. She said more questions were asked from some specific areas, while leaving others with just one or two questions. We expected equal weightage to all the areas as mentioned in the syllabus.

NTA is not following a blueprint unlike how UGC used to follow, said faculty of computer science department from St Joseph's college A Vimal Jerald. NTA has not spreading questions equally in all the areas as given in the syllabus, which includes teaching aptitude, data interpretation and communication. Appreciating NTA for fast tracking the examination process as the results are published within a few weeks after the examination, he said the issuance of certificates too should be fast tracked as often it is delayed for more than three months.
