UPSEB Exams 2020: Students can edit errors in data online

PUBLISH DATE 14th February 2020

If a candidate has made a spelling mistake or put a blurred photograph on the UP Secondary Education Board's (UPSEB) online portal, it's their last chance to rectify the errors.

UPSEB has opened the online window to make corrections in the name, and other records for class X and XII students. The portal, which was opened on February 10, will be closed on February 25.

Board secretary Neena Srivastava said, "We have opened the online window for corrections for the second time after data collection only to be doubly sure that our students get error-free marksheet and certificates."

Earlier, UPSEB had opened the online window for corrections from October 20 till November 16, 2019.

According to a notification issued by Srivastava on February 12, school principals have been asked to ensure that names of students (appearing for class X and XII board exams) and their father and mother are correctly entered. Photograph of candidates uploaded should not be blurred. If a photograph is missing or there is a difference in the details provided by them in Hindi and English, their results will be withheld and the school principal will bear this responsibility, reads the order. Officials said the exercise is done rigorously so that UPSEB has proper details with correct spelling, particularly in Hindi language. UP board students, after a gap of 15 years, will get their marksheet and certificates in Hindi language too.

This is in compliance with the Allahabad high court order on the petition of Manish Dwivedi who had approached UPSEB after his name was misspelt in the marksheet and certificates. However, the error remained and he again took it up with UPSEB after which the latter refused to make a correction, forcing Dwivedi to move court.

Until before 2005, when UPSEB introduced English as the medium for printing of marksheet and certificates, students got their records in Hindi language. Following the introduction of English, UPSEB was flooded with complaints of errors in marksheets and certificates.

This is why even though five days are left for UP Board exams to begin, UPSEB has taken up this humongous task. Candidates who need to make corrections in all three names-theirs and mother and father's-will have to produce evidence.

Recommendation of the district inspector of schools is also must.
