NET Exam Cancelled: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the cancellation of the UGC NET on Wednesday evening. It has said that there are prima facie indications that the integrity of the exam was compromised and that the government has cancelled the test to ensure the highest level of transparency.
"To ensure the highest level of transparency and sanctity of the examination process, the Ministry of Education, Government of India has decided that the UGC-NET June 2024 Examination be cancelled. A fresh examination shall be conducted, for which information shall be shared separately. Simultaneously, the matter is being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (C.B.I.) for thorough investigation in the matter," read a release from the Ministry of Education.
The ministry of education has also added that the matter is being handed over to the CBI.
UGC chairperson M Jagadesh Kumar had said that around 81 per cent of over 11.21 lakh registered candidates had appeared for the NET exam in 317 cities of the country.
In a shift from earlier practice, the National Eligibility Test (NET) was conducted in pen and paper mode this time on a single day -June 18- with a record 11 lakh students registering for the exam. It is a test to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for the award of junior research fellowship, for appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to PhD in Indian universities and colleges. The exam is conducted by the NTA twice every year.
