Magadh University has decided to do away with the optimal mark recognition (OMR) sheet system with effect from degree part I exam (2018-2019 session) and introduce online exam form submission.
The computer readable OMR system was being followed by MU for more than a decade. However, spelling mistakes, wrong entry of subjects and several other anomalies in OMR sheets have forced the university to adopt the online form submission method.
Soon after taking over charge, MU vice-chancellor Rajendra Prasad had said that he will ensure full digitisation of university records and online submission of exam forms.
The switch over to online system of exam form submission was notified by Binod Singh, controller of exams, on December 11. The system is being introduced for session 2018-19 of the degree part I exam.
As per the notification, the examinees are required to open the link provided on the university's official website www.magadhuniversity.ac.in and follow the step-wise guideline for form submission. Online exam forms can be submitted till December 19.
Late fine will be realised from examinees with effect from December 20. The form submission process will be finally closed on the evening of December 23.
The examinees have been directed to download the form submission receipt and pay the exam fee at the college counter on the day specified in the receipt.
The facility will be available to the students enrolled in colleges tagged to MU after the creation of Pataliputra University. These colleges are located in five districts of Magadh division - Gaya, Nawada, Aurangabad, Jehanabad and Arwal. The colleges will have to remit the exam fee collected from the students by January 5 next year.
Students of colleges now attached with Pataliputra University, who had either failed or only partly passed the degree part I exam (2017-18), will have to manually submit exam forms in their respective colleges located in Patna and Nalanda districts.
Meanwhile, educational experts have hailed online form submission in place of OMR sheets. "The online procedure, in any case, is simple as compared to the OMR system, in which blank circles representing alphabets and numbers are darkened by the examinees," said Arun Kumar Prasad, retired principal, MG College, Gaya.
