The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has announced an attempt limit for candidates for its competitive examinations.
Candidates from the open category can have six attempts and OBC candidates can make nine attempts. There is no limit the number of attempts allowed for SC and ST candidates.
The Maratha Kranti Morcha opposed the decision saying that it would be injustice to the socially and educationally backward classes (SEBC) candidates.
An official said that attempts would be independent for each cadre, meaning a candidate from the open category can make six attempts for engineering services and six attempts for the forest service, and so on.
The same would be applicable for OBC candidates, with nine attempts for each cadre.
Attempts will be counted from the advertisement appearing in 2021. No attempt will be counted for earlier advertisements and examinations.
Dhananjay Jadhav, a convenor of the Maratha Kranti Morcha, said the MPSC should not take any decision that would be an injustice to Maratha candidates as the SEBC quota issue is pending in the Supreme Court.
