The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi has activated the mock test link for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2020 at its official website, gate.iitd.ac.in.
The will be conducted on February 1, 2, 8 and 9, 2020. The mock test paper by the IIT-Delhi – exam conducting institute this year, will give candidates an idea of the pattern of the exam.
Those who clear GATE can take admission in MTech programmes, apply for jobs at public sector undertakings (PSUs) as well as apply for higher studies abroad. The result for the GATE 2020, as per the schedule will be declared on March 16, 2020. The GATE score is valid for three years after the result declaration.
Every year 15-20 per cent of M.Tech seats across Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) go vacant, as PSUs and IIT admissions fail to syncronise their process. Every year, for over 2,500 seats across IITs, nearly a million candidates apply for GATE.
GATE 2020: Exam pattern
The GATE 2020 will be a computer-based multiple-choice question or MCQ-based exam. Candidates will have to answer 65 questions for a total of 100 marks within three-hours’ time. The exam consists of two sections. The paper will contain questions on general aptitude (15 marks), engineering mathematics (10-13 marks) and core engineering area of the candidate.
A new paper of Biomedical Engineering (BM) has been added to the list of 24 exams and hence from this year onwards GATE will be conducted over 25 subjects including Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Architecture and Planning, Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering among other subjects. A candidate is allowed to appear in only one paper in any one session.
The GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven older IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
