The ministry of education has released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for the year 2022.
Launched in November 2015, the rankings name the top higher educational institutions across the country in fields including Management, Engineering, Research, Pharmacy, Dental and more.
Colleges are ranked based on five broad parameters identified in the NIRF. These are Teaching, Learning & Resources; Research and Professional Practice; Graduation Outcomes; Outreach and Inclusivity; and Perception.
Each of these five parameters have 2 to 5 sub-parameters. A total number of 18 – 21 sub-parameters are used for ranking of HEIs (Higher Educational Institutes) in different categories and subject domains.

Indian Institute of Technology Madras retains its 1st position in overall category for the fourth consecutive year and in Engineering for the seventh consecutive year.
Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi
Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi ranks second with an overall score of 88.12.
Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay
Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, is at No. 3 with an overall score 83.96.
Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur
At No. 4 is Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur with an overall score 82.56.
Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur
Google CEO Sundar Pichai's almamater IIT-Kharagpur is at No. 5 with an overall score of 78.89.
Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee
IIT-Roorkee get sixth position with an overall score of 76.70.
Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati
IIT-Guwahati ranks at No. 7 with an overall score of 72.98.
National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli
AT No. 8 is National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, with an overall score of 65.53.
Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad
Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad ranks at No. 9 with an overall score of 68.03.
National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal
National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, rounds of the top 10 with an overall score of 66.04.
