IGNOU University Launches Four-Year UG Programme

In compliance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a four-year undergraduate program (FYUP). This program will be offered online and through distant learning; it will also be available via the Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) portal.
The program was unveiled on Wednesday during the National Seminar on G20 Presidency and India's Global Leadership Role by Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, chairperson of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
According to the UGC chairman, the launch of the four-year undergraduate program marks a significant change in the direction of higher education in India.
"FYUP is an essential reform in Indian higher education. Students from across the country will have the opportunity to enrol in IGNOU's FYUP," tweeted Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, UGC chairman.
"Many of IGNOU's courses are also available on SWAYAM. Whether a student wants to take these courses as part of their regular programme or wants to do a simultaneous UG degree in a different discipline than their primary discipline, the opportunities for the students are aplenty," further added.
A four-year undergraduate degree will have several entry and departure options, under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Students will receive a certificate after one year, a diploma after two, a bachelor's degree after three, and an honors bachelor's degree after four years.
