The SAT is an important test for students who want to join top colleges in India and abroad. Despite preparing well for the test, many students end up making some basic and common mistakes.
Here we are listing down some common mistakes by students in the SAT test and tips on how to avoid them:
Last minute preparation
SAT exam dates are released well in advance giving students enough time to start their preparation. The students should start their preparation for the SAT test well in advance to skip last minute anxiety and stress. The only way to score high in the SAT test is continuous practice. Practice as many practice questions and full-length practice tests as possible.
Being unaware of SAT test format
If you know the SAT test format in detail, it would help you prepare a strategy for each section. If you know the subsections of the paper, weightage of marks and type of question, you would be well prepared to answer all the questions in the test.
Not taking the time-based practice test
Time plays a crucial part in the SAT test. Each section should be completed in a defined time. This is the most common mistake for many students. They get carried away once the test starts and lose focus of the time available. The best way to fix your timing is to attempt a practice set in a time-bound manner. While attempting practice set, fix a particular time-limit for each section and try to finish it 2-3 minutes before the deadline so that you get the time to cross check or answer left out questions.
Spending too much time in the Reading section
In the critical reading section, the students tend to spend too much time reading every word in detail. This is not required and it also wastes a lot of time. The students can simply refer back to the passage for the details required.
Not to attempt all questions
Since there is no negative marking in the SAT test, the students are advised to attempt all the questions even when they are not sure. Leaving the answers blanks limit the possibility to score higher.
