This year, engineering admissions in Maharashtra have witnessed a record-breaking registration of over 2.14 lakh students, the highest in recent years. This surge indicates a growing interest among students in engineering courses and points to intense competition in the upcoming admission rounds.
The State Common Entrance Test Cell (CET Cell) began the CAP (Centralized Admission Process) registration for engineering courses on June 28, 2025, which recently concluded. Compared to last year's 1.92 lakh registrations, this year’s count has jumped to 2.14 lakh.
This increase is expected to reduce the number of vacant seats in engineering colleges. Last year, out of 1,80,170 available seats, 1,49,078 students were admitted, while over 31,000 seats remained vacant. In 2023–24, 40,548 seats were left unfilled, highlighting a trend that seems to be reversing now.
In the past few years, engineering colleges struggled to fill seats, even leading to the suspension of some courses due to low enrollment. However, the spike in registrations this year brings hope to many institutions. Among the disciplines, Computer Science and IT-related branches continue to attract the highest number of applicants, making them the most competitive.
Meanwhile, for MBA courses, 50,606 students have registered this year—slightly lower compared to previous years. Last year, although 50,501 seats were available, only 42,207 students took admission, indicating the possibility of vacant seats again this year.
