After aspirants pointed out errors in the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) held on January 19, Maharashtra State Council for Examination (MSCE) called for objections on their website.
All aspirants are required to clear TET to be hired as full-time teachers in primary schools across the state. While the success rate in these exams is under 10%, aspirants found over 100 errors in the paper this year. Conducted in two sessions, over 3.25 lakh candidates took the exam. In a letter to MSCE, the aspirants pointed out several mistakes related to grammar, repeated answers in multiple choice questions and sentence formation. A corrected version of the paper had gone viral on social media.
MSCE called for any errors in the question paper and the answer key through a link on their portal. MSCE officials said the corrections would be considered only if the questions were wrong or could not be understood. A senior official said, "In case of grammatical errors, the questions were still understood. We will give the candidates marks if the questions could not be understood." Candidates have until February 10 to submit their requests.
Teachers are worried about the poor quality of papers. "These papers are supposed to be testing teachers. If it is so poorly drafted, the standards set are so low," said Uday Nare, a teacher at a public school in Andheri.
