Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct the Central Teachers Eligibility Test (CTET) on Sunday, December 8, 2019. The registration for the CTET December 2019 examination started on August 19 and the last date to submit the online application is September 18, 2019.

CTET is the minimum qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher. If you want to make a career in the teaching field, then CTET/TET is the exam you should appear for. Here are more details about the exam, pattern, syllabus, test preparation guide.

1. CTET: Structure of the exam

All questions in CTET examination will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), with four alternatives out of which one answer will be most appropriate. Each carrying one mark and there will be no negative marking.

There will be two papers of CTET:

  1. Paper-I: This paper will be for a person who wants to be a teacher for classes I to V
  2. Paper-II: This paper will be for a person who wants to be a teacher for classes VI to VIII
  3. Anyone who wants to be a teacher for both levels (classes I to V and classes VI to VIII) will have to appear in both the papers

CTET 2019 Paper-I: Important Topics and No. of Questions

CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND PEDAGOGY: This topic focuses on educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 6-11 years. They will focus on understanding the characteristics and needs of diverse learners, interaction with learners and the attributes and qualities of a good facilitator of learning.

  1. Child Development (Primary School Child) - 15 questions
  2. Concept of Inclusive education and understanding children with special needs - 5 questions
  3. Learning and Pedagogy - 10 questions

LANGUAGE I: The questions in Language I focuses on the proficiencies related to the medium of instruction.

  1. Language Comprehension - 15 questions
  2. Pedagogy of Language Development - 15 questions

LANGUAGE II: The questions in this test focuses on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities. Options available under Language II are - English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Garo, Gujarati, Kannada, Khasi, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Mizo, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Tibetan, and Urdu.

  1. Comprehension - 15 questions
  2. Pedagogy of Language Development - 15 Questions

MATHEMATICS AND ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES: The questions in this part will focus on the concepts, problem-solving abilities and pedagogical understanding and applications of the subjects. The questions will come from the syllabus prescribed for classes I-V by the NCERT but their difficulty standard, as well as linkages, could be up to the Secondary stage.

  1. Geometry, Shapes & Spatial Understanding, Solids around Us, Numbers, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Measurement, Weight, Time, Volume, Data Handling, Patterns, Money - 15 Questions
  2. Pedagogical issues - 15 Questions

Environmental Studies

  1. Family and Friends, Food, Shelter, Water, Travel, Things We Make and Do - 15 Questions
  2. Pedagogical Issues - 15 Questions

CTET Paper-II (for Classes VI to VIII):

CTET 2019 Paper-II: Important Topics and No. of Questions

They will focus on understanding the characteristics, needs and psychology of diverse learners, interaction with learners and the attributes and qualities of a good facilitator of learning.

  3. Learning and Pedagogy - 10 Questions

Science

  1. Food, Materials, The World of the Living, Moving Things People and Ideas, How things work, Natural Phenomena, Natural Resources - 20 Questions
  2. Pedagogical issues - 10 Questions

Social Studies/Social Sciences

  1. History, Geography, Social and Political Life - 40 Questions
  2. Pedagogical issues - 20 Questions
