JEE Main 2020: Preparation strategy to step up your scores

PUBLISH DATE 28th April 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has put the Nation under complete lockdown, which has been extended further till 3rd May 2020. Apart from the nation, coronavirus lockdown has also put a halt to the dreams of students looking forward to appearing in JEE Main (April session) followed by JEE Advanced in May.

Before the lockdown, JEE Main (April Session) was scheduled to be conducted on April 5, 7, 9 & 11. Moreover, soon after the extension of Lockdown, the National Testing Agency (NTA) reopened the correction window for JEE Main applications. Here, students who have applied for the April Session can make corrections. While the actual dates for the second session of JEE Main has not yet been released, students do not need to panic and instead utilize the given time in boosting their preparation. Considering the current situation as a blessing in disguise, students must keep calm, stay healthy & invest quality time in identifying their loopholes & strengthening their preparation.

When nothing seems to be under your control, it is best to invest your time in facing the challenges, evolving your skills & stepping towards Excellence for a brighter tomorrow. The Need of the hour is to stay positive, utilize extra time effectively to churn out something productive & better. Following points will certainly help you in utilising the time well:

Draft a workable schedule

When you want to achieve something, the first thing is to plan out your timetable. Schedules shall be made in a way that revision, learning and testing go hand in hand. It also allows you to quickly run through short notes, formulae & concepts. Give equal time to each subject & work upon to strengthen the concepts and their application by attempting mock tests and past years’ exam papers. In-depth learning is the mantra rather than rote learning.

Go Online for Quality Teaching

Current scenario has certainly raised the importance of technology. There are Online platforms working genuinely to provide a virtual classroom ambience with complete notes, expert opinions, online classes, mock tests etc for optimum preparation. Edfora myPAT powered by knowledge partner FIITJEE, is one such platform that enables students to learn effectively from the safety of their homes.

Choose the 3-tier Revision Method

Revisiting in time must boost the retention and productivity. Here, a student can choose to work in a three tier method. A topic done on a given day can be revised after 3 days and then the same topic can be refreshed at the end of the week. In this manner, a student is likely to get a strong hold on topics & subjects.

  1. Conceptual application of Key Formulae: Today’s competitive environment needs one to learn & conceptually apply formulae in JEE Main type questions. This can be further strengthened at the time of revision. Students who consume a lot of time in solving questions can practise and increase their speed.
  2. Attempt Mock tests Often – Mock Test is like a practice match that prepares students for the real match with the right temperament of the exam. For accurate analysis of current preparedness, mock tests play a vital role.
  3. Be relaxed & Stay enthused - For optimum performance, it is important that your mind & body are in shape. Studying for hours without any break in between may not reap desired results. Frequent breaks are vital for the brain to assimilate, regain the lost energy & re-energise the mind & body for the next study session. So, stay calm & determined towards your goal.

After attempting January session of JEE Main 2020, it is time to analyse performance, discover the loopholes, strengthen weak areas & put in optimum efforts to deliver the best. Time is crucial- it must be utilized effectively and productively. Wise utilisation of this extra time & working towards getting a good hold on concepts is the need of the hour.
