CLAT 2020: Important tips for examination

PUBLISH DATE 25th April 2020

If you possess sound communication and persuasion skills, the law is a suitable career for you.

A career in law not only lets you practice in courts but also offers opportunities in corporate, legal consultancies, public sector undertakings, journalism and judiciary to name a few. The CLAT examination is a gateway to prestigious colleges offering a law degree. The countdown to the examination has begun. Here are some tips that will help you nail the examination.

Study selectively

It is a common trend amongst candidates to try to memorize everything that can be asked during the examination. Studying selectively implies not leaving some portions of the syllabus but concentrating on some key topics. CLAT aspirants need to understand that this examination does not require them to know and answer everything. Identify the key focus areas and concentrate on them.

Make notes

Develop a habit of making notes of whatever you study. It not only helps you in memorizing better, but it also comes handy when you are doing a quick revision. Earmark or highlight important information in your study material.

Read extensively

General awareness and English are among the sections in the written examination which demand you to read newspapers daily especially the opinion and editorial page. Candidates are required to be abreast of the current affairs as well as key legal developments. You should make separate time slots dedicated to reading newspapers and improving English grammar and vocabulary.

Practise, Practise and Practise

The sections such as Mathematics and Logical reading require a lot of practice. Cloze Test has emerged as a key component of the syllabus. Ensure that you do not skip it. Do attempt one mock test everyday.

Attempt the exam smartly

It is important to be smart while attempting this examination. Don't be tempted into answering all questions. Attempt those questions first which you know thoroughly. Divide your time limit for each section and adhere to them. Also, do not leave out any section completely.

Stay high on motivation

While preparing for CLAT, students may stumble upon rather boring and lengthy topics which at times serves as a demotivating factor. But a student preparing for CLAT needs to stay motivated and think positive.
