Keeping in mind the cultural and mythological importance of Ujjain, the state government decided to set up Sanskrit University in Ujjain for the promotion and promotion of Sanskrit language and ancient knowledge. Under the Maharishi Panini Sanskrit University Act 2006, Number 15, 2008, the State was established on 15th August, 2008 from the University of Pune, Ujjain and on August 17, 2008, the Honorable Governor of the State, Honorable Mr. Shivraj Singh Chauhan, was presided over by the then Governor and Vice Chancellor Dr. Balram It was officially launched by Jakhar. The program was completed at Birla Research Institute, Dewas Road, Ujjain.
With the support of the district administration, the office of the university started with the consent of Birla Trust in the Birla Research Institute campus located at Dewas Road, Ujjain on 17 August 2008.
The university's office is being run duly in the building of Birla Research Institute situated in the land of Kshapranjali Trust. The total area of ??the land is approximately 1,25,420 square feet and the area of ??the building is approximately 10,200 square feet. Apart from the office, five university teaching departments are also being set up in the same building. The building is rented and its rent is 18,939 per month.
On 25.3.2010, a proposal for amendment in relation to the word 'Vedic' was added in Madhya Pradesh Vidyan Sabha, in the Act of Maharishi Panini Sanskrit University, Ujjain, was passed. Accordingly, the name of this university was 'Maharishi Panini Sanskrit and Vedic University' in place of 'Maharishi Panini Sanskrit University'.
