IIM Visakhapatnam is set up by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India in 2015 as a registered Society with a constituted Board of Governors under the Andhra Pradesh Societies Registration Act 2001. The institute is being mentored by IIM Bangalore.

The temporary campus of the institute is being run at “Andhra Bank School of Business Building” in Andhra University premises. Necessary renovation was done to provide state-of-the-art facilities such as Seminar Room with Video Conferencing, Class rooms, discussion rooms, library, student lounge and cafeteria etc. The transit campus was inaugurated on September 21, 2015 with one section of students in the two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management under the mentorship of IIM Bangalore.

The admission process comprises following stages.

1. Shortlisting candidates for WAT/PI rounds
2. Final Selection of candidates

During the first stage, initially a pool of candidates who satisfy the following minimum CAT 2016 percentiles would be considered.

The actual cutoffs could be much higher than the ones mentioned above.

All candidates in the first shortlist (that is, those who have applied to IIM Visakhapatnam and also meet the minimum percentile requirements shown in Table above) would be receiving an e-mail from IIM Visakhapatnam around third week of April, with a link to a web page where they MUST reconfirm, by a stipulated date, their interest to pursue their candidature further for the admission to PGP 2017-19 at IIM Visakhapatnam.

Among the pool of candidates who meet the above mentioned percentiles, a list of candidates who would be called for attending Written ability test (WAT) and Personal Interview rounds is generated using the following parameters.

Candidates with Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accounting, and Company Secretary certifications are eligible for weight under professional course. No other professional course is eligible for weight under professional course.

The score/weight for work experience is calculated as: Score for Work Experience = 10x/36 (if 0 < x < 36) = 10 (if x >= 36)

Where x is the months of work experience , as captured in CAT application form (and substantiated in the application to IIMV). This implies that the score will peak at 36 months work experience and will remain at that level for candidates with work experience exceeding 36 months.

Note - Candidates shortlisted by IIM B/C/L,I,K need not attend the Interview round. Their WAT/PI scores from these IIMs will be used instead.
