While the debate on postponing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) is still on, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued detailed guidelines for students set to appear in both the exams.

These guidelines were released even when thousands of students were protesting across the country — demanding postponement of the exams due to increasing coronavirus cases in the country.

NEET 2020 is scheduled for September 13, while the JEE Mains is to be held between September 1 to September 6. The Supreme Court has ordered that the exams will take place in September — triggering debate across the country. A large section of people believes these exams should be deferred further.

However, NTA has clarified that exams will happen as per schedule.

Here are the safety guidelines for NEET-JEE aspirants -

• A detailed set of instructions for social distancing will be given on every candidate’s admit card.
• A hyperlink to the location of the centre so that Candidate may verify the location of the centre in advance by clicking on the link (when a candidate clicks the Centre details).
• All the registered candidates have to go through thermal screening at entry and those who show above normal body temperature will be isolated and have to give the exam in a separate room.
• Every student is asked to self-declare that they do not suffer from COVID-19 or have any coronavirus-like symptoms and have not been in touch with anybody who tested positive recently.
• Each student will have to wear a mask on face, gloves on hand, carry a personal transparent water bottle and a personal small hand sanitizer (50ml) to the exam.
• There will be no water dispenser at the exam centre.
• Students will be allowed to proceed further from registration only if the temperature is < 37.4°C/99.4°F.
• All the students will be given a reporting time slot. “The staggering of time slots will be done to ensure uniform distribution of candidates across rooms during entry at the examination centres.” the advisory read.
• Candidates will be required to maintain at least 6 feet distance with each other all the time.
• They’ll also have to sanitise their hands with soap before entry.
• Once they’ve entered they will be asked to throw the old mask and will have to wear a new three-ply mask given at the centre.
