The Manipal Institute of Technology is a constituent institution of Manipal University that specializes in the fields of engineering and technology. MIT contains 16 academic departments and awards undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees. Established in 1957 in Manipal, Karnataka, India, it is one of the first self-financed colleges in India.
In the eighties, the institution was a part of Mangalore University (along with National Institute of Technology, Surathkal). After the establishment of Manipal University in 1991, MIT became a constituent institution of the newly-established university.
