The Indian Institute of Information Technology Dharwad (IIIT-DWD), Karnataka is an Autonomous Institute setup by Government of India (MHRD), Government of Karnataka and Industry Partners (represented by M/s Keonics)as a not-for-profit Public Private Partnership (N-PPP) Society. This is intended to be a world-class Information Technology Institute with the objective of developing professional expertise and to address the increasing skill challenges of the Indian IT industry. It will initially offer UG programs and later extend to PG, Doctoral and post-doctoral programs in IT and ITeS with specialization in IT application to domain areas.
MHRD (GoI) has taken up the initiative to setup 20 new IIITs to develop New Knowledge in Information Technology and to provide manpower of Global Standards for the Information Technology and Allied Fields. The IIIT-Dharwad, is part of the Union government’s proposal to set up 20 new IIITs in different parts of the country and the partners in project would be the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India , state governments and industry. The IIIT-DWD is funded by Government of India (50%), Government of Karnataka (35%) and Industry Partners (15%). The IIIT is expected to meet operating expenses from tuition fees, grants, sponsorships and donations. Additionally, the Government of Karnataka has lent support to the institute by granting 61.06 acres of land for setting up the Campus. IIIT-DWD would come up temporarily at the IT Park in Hubballi. Later, it will be established on 61 acres and 6 guntas of land at Tadasinakoppa near Dharwad.
