Career Choices Beyond Medical and Engineering

The one question every student gets asked after they pass high school is, “what now?” by their parents, friends, and relatives. The parent’s perspective of asking their kin to undertake a certain traditional degree is due to their future thoughts like you will do better financially if you choose to do MBA or if one of the parents is a doctor, they might ask you to become a doctor. But the only thing a teenager wants is to enjoy his life, play a lot, watch movies and pursue his hobby. So, don’t fret over the choices your parents would force you to pursue, choose what you like in the plethora of career options available to graduate from, and to have a career in. Let’s take a look at some of the alternate career choices available and which are now coming into their own and encouraging a lot of people to take up from:

1) Forensic Science: Forensic Science plays a very important role in crime investigation. Due to an increase in the number of crimes the demand for a scientific and methodical approach to solve cases quickly and effectively is also high. Forensic scientists have high observational skills which they use to collect, analyze, and record evidences. A person with a strong base in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry can take up Forensic Science as a career.

2) Ethical Hacking: Ethical hacking is a new-age offbeat career that is both exciting and challenging. Ethical hackers, as opposed to the unethical ones, breach the security of a computer system to find out faults in the system. The work with various organizations and help to improve their security measures by finding out bugs in their company's network security. Ethical hackers must have great logical knowledge and problem-solving attitude.

3) Aviation: A career as a pilot is one of the highest paying jobs in India. To qualify as a pilot, one must be physically fit along with having a great logic and quick decision-making ability. It is a little tough to get the commercial pilot license as you need to qualify a number of exams which includes written, oral, medical, and physical, but once you qualify for the role, you can work with any airline company on a contractual basis.

4) Paramedics: This is the lesser-known yet important cousin of medicine. Paramedical staff assist physicians and nurses. These include professionals in radiology, anesthetics, physiotherapy, etc. There are numerous career options in the paramedic field that you can consider before heading straight to medicine.

5) Biotechnology: This branch of specialization has been around for at least a decade now. Biotechnology is a vast stream with a scope to specialize in so many verticals. You can choose from plant and animal tissue culture, education, genetically modified seeds (agriculture), fermentation and brewing (alcohol industry), R&D in the pharma and food industry, managing clinical data, etc.

6) Defense: A career in defense is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious careers. One can choose to serve the country through any one of the three primary branches in defense, namely, the Army, the Navy, or the Air Force. If you have the passion and the commitment to serve the nation fighting against all odds then a career in defense is what you could opt for. There are a number of written and physical examinations that one needs to clear before getting selected.

7) Industrial Design: Industrial design refers to designing products that are manufactured in mass like mobiles, appliances, and automobiles like cars and motorbikes. Industrial designing needs technical expertise which is taught to students from the PCM background. Industrial designing is not only limited to designing products, but also requires extensive research and developing too.

8) Photography: You are likely reasoning this is not ‘way out’ or phenomenal. However, let us simplify with the list! Photography is steadily advancing towards getting to be a ‘standout’ amongst the most popular career options for some individuals, including fresher who are searching for an increasingly relaxed career alternative that is both agreeable and beneficial. What can be superior to transforming your preferred hobby into a financial undertaking that will enable you to have a fabulous time and earn in the meantime? There are various kinds of photography careers to browse from like wildlife, food, portrait, travel, wedding.

9) Travel and Tourism: I am sure most of you would have channel surfed. There are TV channels devoted to travel and the tourism industry. They have a horde of programs and superb anchors going to lively and exciting locales, worldwide. You get the opportunity to venture to the far corners of the planet and get paid for it as well… what more can one request in life! If you are the individual who wishes to have wings and fly like a bird, this is the right way to go on.

10) Food Critic: This particular career option is for each one of those food-lovers who make the most of their food and drink. Get paid to visit new places and offer high and sound studies about what they bring to the table regarding mood, food, quality, client administration, and so on. You should be eager to attempt a wide range of food, and you have yourself one of the coolest occupations on the planet!
