Department of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Studies, Savitribai Phule Pune University

The department was established at Savitribai Phule Pune University in 2006 with the financial support of University Grants Commission (UGC). The centre went through administrative procedures and has achieved the status of a department under humanities.

The department focused on Babasaheb Ambedkar’s thoughts on peace and security studies, international relations, foreign policy, constitutional studies, economic thoughts, religion, philosophy, Indian society, social work, polity, human rights and India’s national security. It admits Indian and international students for a postgraduate diploma.

Fees I Rs.15,000

This course will be conducted in collaboration with Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute an autonomous organization under the department of social justice and special assistance, government of Maharashtra. The Department of Ambedkar Studies, SPPU and BARTI, work together under an MOU signed between the two. The centre and the institute coordinate teaching, research and training activities with the financial assistance from BARTI for five years.
