Admission Details:

We at the Jindal School of Journalism & Communication are writers, thinkers, and scholars--practitioners in the various facets of the science and art of communications. We believe in Mikhail Bakhtin’s dictum that every human interaction is fundamentally a dialogue, a dynamic conversation.

For the B.A. (Hons.) degree in Media & Communication, the student needs to complete 30 3-credit courses. These 30 courses are broken down into 20 core courses + 10 electives, 4 of which should be interdisciplinary in nature drawn from other JGU schools, and the rest chosen from electives offered within JSJC.

The undergraduate programme at JSJC aims to create practitioners who would be suited for a range of career paths. For this reason, classroom knowledge at JSJC is constantly reinforced in a real world context, not least through a robust internship programme. The emphasis is on “learning to learn” since a vital part of a communications professional’s apparatus of thought is an ability to engage in lifelong learning.
Hence, internships with media houses, international organisations, NGOs and corporate houses remain a core element of the curriculum. JSJC works closely with leading universities, educational, government and non-government institutions in India and abroad. That we expect, would be beneficial for students in securing internships, which would commence from the very first semester break.
Students receive academic credit for the internships and therefore must complete a report. There would be minimum and maximum hours specified for each internship.

Choosing a major: Students may select a major from a few indicative specialisation streams, such as journalism, media, applied communication, film and TV production, advanced new media and advanced communication strategy. In consultation with their academic advisor, students may even plan a self-designed major.
Admission to a major: Students are required to declare and apply for a major within the first two weeks of their fourth semester. Thereupon, they will hear if they have been admitted to their preferred major well before the end of semester four. The criteria for admission is academic performance till date and interview with relevant JSJC faculty. Once admitted, the academic major requires completion of a specified number of credits in the major area.
