Indian Institute of Management Udaipur, Balicha, Udaipur-313001, Rajasthan, India

 http://www.iimu.ac.in

The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) were created by the Indian Government with the aim of identifying the brightest student talent available and creating a pool of elite managers to lead the various sectors of the Indian economy. Over the course of more than fifty years, IIMs have become recognized as premier management institutions, comparable to the best in the world for teaching, research and interaction with industry.

In 2009, the Indian Government approved the creation of IIM Udaipur; the Institute officially opened in 2011. In October 2016 IIMU moved to its permanent campus on 300 acres of land in the Balicha area of Udaipur which have been allocated by the Government of Rajasthan.

IIMU pulses with the energy of a start-up while building on the prestigious accomplishments and traditions of the IIM network. It aims to set a new benchmark in the field of management education by combining excellence in both teaching and research. The Institute strives to make a real difference to the region, forging strong relationships with local NGOs and government and working closely with industry on live projects, internships, guest lectures, faculty research, and many events throughout the academic year.

Udaipur, capital of the former princely state of Mewar, evokes the same sense of heritage, beauty and grandeur as such timeless destinations as Venice and Prague. This cradle of culture and history is the perfect backdrop for IIM Udaipur.

If ever there was a place that lent itself as an environment for the kind of management education IIMU aspires to deliver it is Udaipur and Rajasthan. With this heritage, culture and location IIM Udaipur is truly where history meets the future.

Changes when compared to last year

  • The minimum CAT 2016 sectional.percentile requirement has been reduced for differently abled (DA) candidates from 55 to 50 percentile.

Admission Process:

The admission process for the PGP program comprises of following stages.

  1. Shortlisting candidates for WAT/GD/PI round.
  2. Final Selection of candidates post WAT/GD/PI round

During the first stage, initially a pool of candidates who satisfy the following minimum CAT 2016 percentiles are considered.

Among the pool of candidates who meet the above mentioned percentiles, a list of candidates would be called for attending Written ability test (WAT) and Personal Interview depending on their performance in CAT.

One point to be noted here is that for shortlisting candidates for WAT/PI rounds IIM Udaipur is considering only the CAT performance of a candidate. This goes on to show that performing well in CAT 2016 would go a long way in securing a WATGD/PI call from this premier B-school.

The following are the weightages that would be considered during the final selection of candidates

Candidates who do not obtain certain minimum scores in the WA & PI would not be considered for the merit list. The minimum scores would be decided by IIM Udaipur at its discretion.

To conclude, one important observation about this year's selection process is that the total weightage for parameters which are controllable (CAT,WA and PI) in the final selection stage has been kept at 76%. This ensures that the applicants, who do not have a good academic profile or work experience can still aspire to join IIM Udaipur by preparing well for CAT 2016, WA and PI rounds.

Note- The 9 IIMs (IIM Amritsar, IIM Bodhgaya, IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Rohtak, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Trichy and IIM Udaipur) have decided to adopt a common process of WA&PI to be coordinated this year by IIM Rohtak. In case any of the older IIMs (Bangalore, Calcutta, Indore,Kozhikode, and Lucknow) are willing to share their WA & PI score with the 9 IIMs, the common candidates who have applied to new IIMs, need not to appear for WA & PI process separately, else they have to appear. The common candidates will be intimated the names of older IIMs sharing WA & PI scores with new IIMs.
