Varsity to issue show cause notice to STES

PUBLISH DATE 20th February 2018

Following a weeklong inspection into the controversy of Sinhgad Group of Institutes by the three-member committee established by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), the varsity has decided to take a strong step. After the report prepared by the committee were submitted to the SPPU vice-chancellor Nitin Karmalkar, the decision to send a show cause notice to the institutes was taken on Monday.

“We had received the report from the panel in the morning. The decision has been taken based on all the documents we could gather from the institutes, teachers, staff and the students. And, Monday being a holiday, we could not send the notice, but will issue it to the institute on Tuesday,” said Karmalkar.

The committee comprising one representative from the office of Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra (DTE) and two from SPPU inspected the case from three aspects, staff, students and the management of Sinhgad Technical Education Society (STES). Nineteen questions were also put forth for the management. The questions, however, have been answered partially, the V-C said.

“Our decision has been taken upon scrutiny of whatever information was provided to us. The aim was to minimise the loss for the students and staff,” he said.

During the inspection, the management had promised to clear the salary payment due for the last 16 months. As per the management, the salaries for October 2016 and November 2016 have been deposited. However, staff representative Sachin Shinde said only 50% of the staff and teachers have received the payment of the two months.

“Our non-cooperation movement will end only after the payment for all the 16 months is completed by the management,” said Shinde.
