Varsity pushes date for PhD applications

PUBLISH DATE 15th August 2017

THE PHD ENTRANCE EXAM DATE WILL BE ON SEPTEMBER 10 AND STUDENTS HAVE TO GIVE TWO EXAMS OF 50 MARKS EACH

PUNE: To accommodate the delay in declaration of results by the University of Mumbai, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has pushed their deadline of PhD applications further, from August 14 to August 21, keeping in mind the interests of Mumbai aspirants as well.

Giving respite to not only the Mumbai aspirants, the decision is also being welcomed by Pune PhD aspirants.

Rahul Magar, a PhD student of History said, “The extension is great since some post graduation results are yet to be out. This move has given many the opportunity to apply, buying them more time.”

Deputy registrar of admission at SPPU, Uttam Chavan stated that the extension was not only to help the Mumbai aspirants, but has been taken keeping in view the interests of all. Chavan said, “The reason the University of Mumbai hasn’t yet declared the results, has in fact influenced the move to extension. But, that is not the only one. A lot of universities are also yet to declare results, and we want to accommodate students from all these places as well.”

“But, then again, every year, we have over 10% applications coming from the University of Mumbai, and considering that sizable number, we decided to go ahead and postpone the date,” he added.

Although the examination date still remains the same, the University officials say that it might be changed.
