Student council polls from June: Tawde

PUBLISH DATE 12th December 2017

In a welcome development for college students, Maharashtra education minister Vinod Tawde told TOI the process for student council polls would commence from the next academic session beginning June.

On November 21, TOI was the first to report the government’s plans to drop the important elections for the current session after they were reintroduced following a huge gap of over 23 years under the new Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016.

Speaking on the sidelines of the assembly session on Monday, Tawde said the government was planning to draft a comprehensive plan, on the lines of the Development Plan of cities, which would take care of the education sector’s requirements for the next 10 years.

He also said the government would be releasing uniform statutes for all traditional universities in the state by mid-February.
