SPPU to get new pro vice-chancellor soon

The election for the next pro vice-chancellor is underway at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) . As per the university authorities, the selection process is being undertaken by the current vice-chancellor and will be completed within the next few days. For the procedure to begin, the vice-chancellor, Dr Nitin Karmalkar has been considering a few names to make the selection from.

According to the University Act, the University requires to appoint a pro vice-chancellor and it is the vice-chancellor of the University that has to look into the procedure and select the final name for the position.Till now, Karmalkar has recommended four names for the position. The governor and SPPU chancellor C Vidyasagar Rao will be consulted for the same as well, according to the rules enlisted in the act.

Dr NS Umrani, Dr Sanjay Kharat, Dr KC Mohit, Dr Dilip Uke and Dr Kharate, are the five names that have been shortlisted from the bulk of applications that the varsity had received. Out of these, the VC has shortlisted four names and has sent it to the chancellor.

Among those four names, Dr. NS Umraani, principal of Garware Commerce College and Dr Sanjay Kharat, principal of Modern College, Ganeshkhind, are regarded as the forerunners and are being considered for the position.

This year, the administration of Pune university had decided to make the appointment early. However, the procedure till now has been delayed as Maharashtra Governor Vidyasagar Rao’s inputs are crucial for the procedure to progress and therefore, the results for the election of pro vice-chancellor has been kept on hold till he returns to Mumbai.
