Pune varsity's convocation ceremony postponed

PUBLISH DATE 10th May 2017

The 111th convocation ceremony of the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), which was scheduled on May 11, has been postponed due to `technical' reasons.

Ironically enough, the announcement came after SPPU registrar Arvind Shaligram (additional charge) held a news conference on Tuesday evening with regards to the convocation. Later in the evening, a statement signed by the registrar stated that the convocation has been postponed.

In the statement, the registrar makes no mention of the reason for the postponement. This was the second convocation organized for the current academic ear, following a University Grants Commission directive to hold two convocations annually . Earlier, the Karmachari Sangh, a union comprising varsity employees, had written a letter to the varsity administration stating that their demands were not met despite several applications in the last few months. The statement, signed by union secretary Santosh Madne, said the administration failed to even meet the union workers to hear their demands.
