Pune varsity plans to add 58 new colleges in 5 years

SPPU To Go For Top NAAC Rank For All Institutions

As many as 58 new college will be given permission to function by the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) in Pune, Ahmednagar and Nashik as per its new five-year plan.

The university also aims to improve its ranking from nine to five in the National Institute Ranking Framework.

A draft of the five-year plan from 2019-20 to 2023-24 has been submitted by the SPPU to the Maharashtra Uchha Shikshan Parishad for approval.

The management council and academic council met last week at university in which the draft plan was approved for submission.

Development and expansion, inclusion, skill development, generation of jobs, innovation, and development of entrepreneurship, research and quality were some points considered while making the draft for the five-year plan.

Vice-chancellor Nitin Karmalkar said, “While preparing the plan, the key stakeholders of the university including students, faculty, department heads, institution heads, industry, social activists were consulted before the draft was finalized.”

In the recent NIRF rankings announced by the Union ministry of human resource and development, SPPU stood ninth among the universities in the country. The draft plan aims to improve the ranking to fifth in the coming years. The plan also has provision for starting 58 new colleges under the SPPU's affiliated districts.
