The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has issued admission notification for diploma courses in ophthalmic science and optometry. Candidates who have passed class XII (HSC) in science faculty with physics, chemistry and biology are eligible to apply for these courses online.
“The courses will prepare students to provide primary eye care in vision centres, eye hospitals, eye care health units as ophthalmic assistants, optometrists, and refractionists. These courses enable the students to get self-employment,” said K D Chavan, registrar of the MUHS.
Fifty seats each are available for the two courses, which will be conducted at the Aurangabad regional centre of the MUHS. The admissions will be conducted by online merit list process.
In case of equal marks for physics, chemistry and biology for HSC examinations, marks of biology will be taken into consideration. If the tie still persists, older candidates will be preferred over the younger ones, says the information brochure.
“The students will gain practical skills, including the ability to understand the practical applications of ophthalmic equipment, familiarity with anatomical specimens, and radiographs. Purpose of the course is to develop ophthalmic manpower at primary eye care level,” said Chavan.
