PG medical aspirants get bond reprieve

PUBLISH DATE 26th November 2017

In a brief respite, state postgraduate medical aspirants have been exempted from the compulsory rural stint to get a PG seat this year. This means, around 5,000 MBBS graduates from public medical colleges attempting NEET-PG on January 7, 2018, will not require bond-free certificates to be eligible for it.

The government’s medical education department issued a resolution delaying implementation of their GR dated October 12, by a year. Sanjay Deshmukh, principal secretary, medical education department, said the GR will now be applicable from 2019.

The previous GR stated candidates who did not complete their bond can’t appear for the entrance test. It was strongly opposed by medical students and their parents and some moved court. While the current batch of students are exempted, MBBS graduates taking the test in January 2019, repeaters or fresh MBBS graduates will have to submit their bond-free certificates to be eligible for NEET-PG.
