NID placements draw top firms, IB schools

Top global and Indian companies have flocked to the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad to pick talent from the premier college this year. The number of recruiters has gone up by nearly 50 percent over last year, said NID officials.

The placement week at the top-rated design institute began on Monday and saw two schools affiliated to the International Baccalaureate doling out offers to recruit student designers. The placement will focus on full-time recruitment and graduation project (final semester internship).

This newspaper had reported on Sunday that global premium car manufacturer Rolls Royce would be taking part in the placement process, a first for NID, to hunt for creative minds for interactive design, information design and graphic design.

According to a statement released by the institute, the 2017 placements have witnessed a sharp rise in the number of new companies. Sujitha Nair, head-industry, placements, students and alumni relations, said that there has been participation of more than 100 companies from various segments of the economy.

Nair said, "The different sectors are FMCG, automotive, textile, apparel, gaming, IT, lifestyle, education, jewellery, baggage, electronics, advertising, TV & entertainment, studios, fashion houses, furniture, start-ups, etc. We had nearly 47 companies on Day 1 and 45 and 19 companies are expected on Day 2 and 3."

Among the companies that will be closing deals with NID students are Rolls-Royce India, Microsoft, TCS, Adobe Systems, Oakridge International School, Pathways World, Disney India, Titan and Mapro Foods.
