The Maharashtra State Council of Examinations (MSCE) announced the results of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) on Tuesday, which recorded a pass percentage of over 6%, the highest so far.
The MSCE has given a 10-day period, before the final results will be declared, for any objections to be raised.
As many as 1,55,660 candidates in the state sat for the exam in 508 centres across Maharashtra this year out of which over 9,500 of them passed. The exam was conducted on July 15.
Dattatreya Jagtap, the director of the state exam council, said, “This is the first time the success rate
has crossed 6%. As many as 4,030 candidates passed Paper I and over 5,000 candidates passed Paper II.”
Jagtap said Paper I was conducted for candidates aspiring to become primary teachers, whereas Paper II was conducted for those wanting to become secondary schoolteachers.
The first TET was held in 2013 and the pass percentage had been around 2-4% in the previous years.
The exam is mandatory for aspiring teachers under the Right to Education (RTE) Act and is an essential requirement for teachers to be appointed in zilla parishad, municipal and private schools..
