JEE Advanced 2019 paper analysis

As per experts, Paper 1 and Paper 2 were both moderately difficult. However, Paper 1 was tougher than Paper 2.

The Indian Institute of Technology, IIT, Roorkee conducted the JEE Advanced exam on May 27. Candidates who have qualified in JEE Main 2019 exam conducted by National Testing Agency, NTA in April this year are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2019.

JEE Advanced 2019 was held on May 27. The exam is divided into two papers. JEE Advanced 2019 Paper 1 was held in the morning slot from 9 pm to 12 pm, followed by Paper 2.

JEE Advanced 2019 Paper 2: Moderate difficulty overall

"The overall difficulty level of JEE Advanced paper 2 was Moderate," said Navin C Joshi, Academic head and VP (JEE and NEET), Gradeup.

"As per the feedback received from the students, the Mathematics section was difficult, however, relatively easier than paper 1," he added.

"Questions were highly conceptual and required good time management skills. The Chemistry section was easy and in line with the trend, while the Physics section was moderate and somewhat easier than Paper 1," said Joshi.

"The mathematics section was the toughest and lengthy. The physics section was also tough, lengthy and more of calculation-based, whereas the chemistry section was as per expectation and in line with the trend -- this applies for both paper I and Paper II," said Partha Halder, Centre-Head, FIIT JEE, Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi.

No paragraph-based questions

"A major change in the pattern was the absence of paragraph based-questions. Overall, aspirants found Paper 1 tougher as compared to Paper 2," said Navin C Joshi.

JEE Advanced Paper 2 2019: Marking scheme and exam pattern

Every year the exam pattern and marking scheme of JEE Advanced changes. This year, the pattern was similar to 2018. However, the total marks of JEE Advanced Paper 1 in 2019 increased to 186 as compared to 180 in 2018, Joshi said.

The expected cut-off for general category may vary from 127- 142 marks out of the total 372 marks for admission to II
