Garware college student tops in three subjects, bags awards

Seven students from Pune district took home 10 awards for excelling in various subjects in the higher secondary certificate (HSC, class XII) board examination conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE). The results were announced online on May 31 while students received their mark sheets on Friday .

From the Pune division, which includes Solapur, Ahmednagar and Pune districts, Shrikala Purohit of Abasaheb Garware College bagged the most number of prizes for scoring the highest marks in maths (100), physics, chemistry and maths group (295) and Sanskrit (99).

MSBSHSE's Pune division declared as many as 25 awards.The respective colleges distributed mark sheets to all students on Friday. Each year, the division also announces awards for students excelling in various subjects. These awards are instituted from donations given by citizens.

Besides Purohit, Bhushan Jamdade a student of S M Choksey High School and Junior College scored 99 marks in Biology to bag the Vishwanath Eknathrao Lakde Award and Dr Yashwant Vishnu Rushi Memorial Award. The medical aspirant said, “My mother has motivated me to take up medicine as a career and that is why I have so much interest in biology.“ Overall, Jamdade scored 91.08 % in HSC.

Jaina Sanghvi, another student from the same institute as Jamdade, scored full 200 marks in computer science to bag the Matoshree Chagnebai Han mantrao Rathi Award as well as the Sitabai Ramchandra Ghaisas and Ramchandra Vishwanath Ghaisas Memorial Award.Sanghvi shared, “I expected to score around 195 marks in omputer science but scoring full marks has been a big surprise. I plan pursue computer engineering from the College of Engineering, Pune.“
