The Consortium of National Law Universities has introduced several changes in the upcoming Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) scheduled for May 10, 2020.
To help students beat the exam stress, the new format has reduced the number of questions from 200 to 150 that the aspirants will have to solve in 120 minutes. Under the revised comprehension-based pattern, the legal aptitude section has also been replaced by legal reasoning.
In the old format, the aspirants were tested on their ability to memorise the laws more than the ability for reasoning. “The legal acumen section will now include questions based on legal reasoning and will test the deductive reasoning abilities of the candidate, instead of testing their legal knowledge. Since these students are seeking admission to study law at the undergraduate level, there is no need to test prior knowledge in law,” said Faizan Mustafa, vice-chancellor, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.
CHANGES IN MATH SECTION
The Math or the quantitative techniques section will have more focus on analysis where questions will be based on tables and graphs. The questions in the quantitative analysis section will be based on the syllabus of class X. Other sections in the paper will include English language, current affairs including general knowledge, logical reasoning, which will be class XII difficulty level.
