Admissions at Bamu institute put on hold

PUBLISH DATE 22nd June 2017

Aurangabad:More than a month after answer-sheet scam was unearthed at Sai Institute of Engineering and Technology , Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) on Wednesday ordered a freeze on the fresh admissions at the college, but did not de-recognising it.

The action has stoked new debate with a section of stakeholders saying that the institute should have been de-recognised as per the provisions of the newly introduced Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016, instead of stalling fresh admissions.

Bamu authorities, however, have defended the action stating that the college would have no existence in future by virtue of freezing of fresh admissions. In a statement issued post the academic council meeting held on Wednesday , Bamu has said that it has accepted the report submitted by the examination section and accordingly ordered no admissions from academic year 2017-18.
